Permission forms have gone home for the Expo on November 6th, and should be returned as soon as possible!
We are officially into the second half of the course, believe it or not!
Our first term wrapped up with the completion of the Finance Unit, including a Final Budget and Reflection. This week we learned a bit about how the brain works and how that connects to behaviour, particularly when it comes to habits (such as dopamine response to shopping and how that can be problematic when trying to manage your finances!).
We are now shifting gears into Job Seeking and Workplace Skills, which will involve resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, conflict and relationship management, and a number of guest presentations and field trips.
Important Dates:
- November 6: Career, Volunteer, and Education Expo Field Trip (Yukon College)
- November 13/14: Work Safety Sessions
- November 13/14: Evening - Student Led Conferences
- November 19: Human Rights Commission
- December 2 and 4: PARTY Program Field Trip, full day (Dec 2 - Period 1, Dec 4 - Period 2)
Any assignments that have not been completed to this point are still eligible for assessment. Curricular competencies are assessed throughout the semester, and in a variety of assignments so students have multiple opportunities to demonstrate their learning and growth in their mastery of the content and competencies. (This doesn't mean students are expected to master "adulting" by the end of the semester! The focus is on developing skills and attitudes that will support them in work and life!)
