Welcome to Band!!
If you are a student or parent/guardian in this learning community, you will find all kinds of information and resources to help guide you through the process of Concert Band 8.
The Music Department Handbook can be found on the general Classes & Resources homepage. Information you will need about day-to-day procedures, concert dates, uniforms, etc. will be there.
The overview (and details of assignments) for the upcoming year can be viewed and downloaded from the bottom of this page. There is also a general timeline of the year here (but remember, this is a plan - and plans are not always concrete!).
Generally, Concert Band 8 involves two formal concerts, two community-based performance, composition, playing technique "check-ins", and regular reflection on personal progress (video blog, written journal, cartoon, individual discussion, etc.).
In the subsections of this page you will find the backbone of the course, which include five core components: Community, Reflection, Performance, Theory, and Composition. The year will begin with a community focus, then we will begin to explore reflective performance and practice. All five components will be addressed through all of the course content. Yes, through these five facets learners will meet the course objectives. But more importantly, musicians will begin to emerge with a develop deeper love and capacity for music, as well as a greater understanding of what music means individually.
Each theme addresses a central learning goal, explains a bit about why it is important, identifies a representative learning outcome, and describes some related learning activities and assessment.
Please take some time to explore the key components of the course, and feel free to ask questions at any time!
