This week we are properly beginning our Children's Book Project! This will be our main job for the next few weeks as we step through the experience together.
Monday:
Explore common themes in children's literature and identify possible personal experiences that could be your source material. You can choose a time of conflict or something great! The purpose of using your own experiences as a starting point is so that everyone can access this process. You are allowed to make up any details you'd like, including writing alternate endings for yourself. The requirements are that the story is appropriate for young readers, has a beginning, middle, and end, and is comfortable for you to work with.
Tuesday:
Identify the plot structure of your story using the Plot Mountain diagram.
Wednesday-Thursday:
Expand your plot across approximately 14 pages, drafting roughly what will happen on each page. This is where you will be adding or changing details details to make your story fit the structure of a children's book.
Next week we will make a storyboard using the Plot Pitch from Wed/Thurs which will include rough images. Stories can be told in many ways and we will be using two methods (written and visual).
