This has been a busy week for our class as we wrapped up all the new content in our Finance Project. Next week we will have a small amount of time to finish up (otherwise your booklets will be for homework) before we do the Final Budget and Reflection. You have had a lot of class time to complete your assignments so we will be moving forward with our next unit soon!

Monday:
Finance Project - Complete Transportation, begin Meal Planning.
- The plan for one week of meals must include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. You don't have to have big breakfasts or eat wildly differently than you do already, BUT you do need to eat something at each meal.
- You should have some variety and healthy options. Make sure you're adding veggies!
Tuesday:
Finance Project - Continue Meal Planning and begin Grocery Shopping.
- Once your meal plan has been approved, you need to make a detailed list of every item needed to make everything on your plan. This includes things like condiments for sandwiches. You wouldn't need to buy those every week once you're established, but you do need to get everything this time!
- Divide your budgeted amount for food in four to find out how much you can spend for the week.
- Use a local grocery store that has online shopping. Set the location to Whitehorse if they have other locations. Your options are Superstore, Save On Foods, and Independent. Do not actually buy your grocery list!
- Multiply your grocery total by four to see roughly how much you would be spending for the month. If your grocery list is way over, you'll need to rethink some things. If it's close, that's ok, since there will be some items that you definitely wouldn't need to buy again that month. Ask if you're not sure!
Wednesday:
Finance Project - Personal Care (click here to see the class brainstorm).
- You need to copy the class brainstorm into your booklet if you haven't already.
- Not everything in the brainstorm is required (or needed for everyone), but there are many items that are! These would be things like toilet paper, soap, dish soap, laundry soap... Basically a lot of soap! Ask me if you aren't sure what you should have on your list.
- Make a detailed list and find the items online at one of our local stores. In addition to Save On Foods and Superstore, you could look at Shoppers Drug Mart as well for personal items.
Thursday:
Finance Project - Catch Up Time
Friday:
Finance Project - Cell Phones/Internet/TV
- You must have a phone! You are not required to have internet or TV, especially if you are on a really tight budget, but you absolutely need a phone in order to have a job. This is true in real life!
- Make sure you set the location for any service providers to the Yukon (and Whitehorse in the case of Northwestel). Different companies have different prices for different regions.
- Be very careful to find how much you're paying for the phone itself as well as your service plan each month!
- For TV, you are welcome to have an internet-based streaming subscription if that's your preference.
